What is Glass Fusing?

Glass fusing is the process of creating artwork by layering pieces of compatible glass and melting them together in a kiln. Artists use colorful sheet glass, frit (crushed glass), stringers, powders, and other decorative elements to create everything from jewelry and ornaments to bowls, platters, wall art, and home décor.

Unlike glassblowing, glass fusing does not involve working with molten glass at a furnace, making it an approachable and relaxing introduction to glass art. After designing a piece, it is fired in a kiln where the layers permanently bond together. Additional firings can be used to shape the glass into functional forms such as dishes, lantern panels, and serving pieces.
